Producing our turf

To produce quality turf we have to follow our production process. The main steps in the production process are as followed:

- Seed Selection

We basically select a seed to use, by choosing them from one of our specialist seed houses.

- Mowing

The first mowing of the turf generally takes place 3-4 weeks after germination, and one of our rotary mowers is used.

- Irrigation

This makes sure the turf is moist prior to cutting and helps to ensure that it reaches the customer in the best possible condition.

- Weed Control

Weed control takes place throughout the entire production process and we ensure that only what we have planted grows.

- Harvesting

Before we harvest, we assess each field to ensure that the turf is in its best possible condition. A pre-harvest fertiliser is also applied to our turf.

- Distribution

The final part of our production process is the distribution of our lawn turf. We have an extensive distribution fleet to satisfy the requirements of each of our customers.

Mowing your new lawn

You should always try to resist mowing your new lawn turf until the lawn has rooted. You might ask, ‘how do I check if my turf is rooted?’ Well it is simple, all you need to do is lift the corner of a strip of turf and check if the roots are attached to the soil below. Watering your turf

Newly laid lawn turf should be watered thoroughly and within half an hour after it has been laid. Thorough watering should take place at least once every day until you know the roots of the lawn are well established. For a rough guide, around 2 hours per day of constant watering should be carried out across the entire lawn, however, if the weather is really hot or dry then watering should last a while longer. Some tips on laying turf

Laying turf can be really simple when you know how to do it. Here are a few simple that can help you to lay your turf correctly and accurately -

• Make sure that you calculate the are you are going to turf, you can use our online turf calculator to help you with this. 
• Make sure the old turf has been removed.
• If you don't use top soil you will have to keep turning your existing soil with a shovel until it is fine and crumbly, removing any loose stones during the process.
• Rake the soil using a wide rake.
• Start laying the turf on the straightest edge available.
• Once the lawn turf has been laid, water it straight away.
• Finally, make sure you don't walk on it for two weeks, and keep off it as much as possible for four weeks to give the roots time to bind the soil.
